Walking and Talking Chippendale / Old + New
Small and smart, the Sydney Architecture Festival walking tours will show you details of Chippendale and surrounds you might never have thought to look at and will reveal stories about its architecture you might never otherwise hear. Old + New takes participants on a tour focused on the history of Chippendale, from William Chippendale's 95 acre farm grant in 1819 until now. What was an impoverished industrial suburb for most of the 19th and 20th centuries has been revitalized in recent decades, resulting in the exciting and eclectic enclave of today. Led by heritage architecture specialist, Matt Devine, this tour visits buildings of all phases of this fascinating suburb, including the early 19th century workers' housing, the former Kent Brewery, Strickland Building and Central Park.
